We are Fatima Elie (she/they) a Lebanese artist who primarily shoots on film, and Isabella Eda Baker (she/her) a British-Turkish amateur photographer and human rights student.
The last 8 months of genocide in Gaza have changed life for everyone, and when Ramadan approached we knew it would also be very different. This project explores Ramadan in Lebanon, examining its enduring traditions and the changes in light of the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the conflict in the South of Lebanon.
Ramadan means something different for everyone, especially in this time as communities and individuals found a way to practice their faith. This exhibition is an attempt to show and celebrate the beauty of Ramadan and how we can find light in the darkness amid current events. Indeed, due to the threat from Israel across the country, this project has taken place largely between the two cities of Beirut and Tripoli. However, we have attempted to include people from different sects, origins and nationalities: representing the diverse people of Lebanon.
As women, this project has inevitably taken a female lens; showing and discussing female perspectives, as seen both in the photos and the accompanying film. No images of food are included in the project, as the people of Gaza continue to suffer from starvation.
All profits from this exhibition will be directed towards aiding the people of Gaza.
هذا المعرض من تنظيم المصوّرة الفوتوغرافية اللبنانيّة فاطمة إيلي المنغمسة في التصوير الفوتوغرافي التناظري (الأنالوج)، والمصوّرة البريطانيّة التركيّة الهاوية إيزابيلا إيدا بيكر، وهي طالبة في مجال حقوق الإنسان.
لقد بدّلت الأشهر الثمانية الماضية حياة الجميع رأسًا على عقب في ظلّ الإبادة الجماعية في غزّة. ومع اقترب شهر رمضان المبارك، أدركنا أنّ الشهر الفضيل هذا العام سيكون مختلفًا تمامًا عمّا عهدناه في السابق. يغوص هذا المشروع في احتفالات شهر رمضان للعام ٢٠٢٤ في لبنان، بما فيه من عادات وتقاليد راسخة وتغيّرات في ضوء الإبادة الجماعية المستمرّة في غزّة والصراع الدائر في جنوب لبنان.
كلّ منّا يعيش رمضان بشكلٍ مختلفٍ، لاسيّما في الآونة الأخيرة حيث ابتكرت المجتمعات والأفراد سبلاً خاصةً لممارسة عقائدها الدينية.
هذا المعرض هو محاولة لإظهار جماليات شهر رمضان المبارك والاحتفال بها، سعيًا منّا لإيجاد النور في الظلام وسط الأحداث المروّعة التي نشهدها. ونظرًا للتهديدات التي نشرتها إسرائيل في جميع أنحاء البلاد، لقد نُفِّذ هذا المشروع بشكلٍ أساسي بين مدينتي بيروت وطرابلس. ومع ذلك، فقد حاولنا قدر المستطاع شمل أفراد من مختلف الطوائف والأصول والجنسيات يمثّلون لبنان، مُلتقى الحضارات. وبصفتنا نساء، اتّخذ هذا المشروع حتمًا منظورًا أنثويًا؛ بحيث تستعرض مجموعة الصوّر والفيلم وجهات نظر النساء. لا يضمّ هذا المشروع أي صور للمأكولات، إذ لا يزال سكان غزّة يعانون الجوع. ستُخصّص جميع أرباح هذا المعرض لمساعدة سكّان غزّة.

Wheres the money going to?
Since the inception of this project, we have been regularly consulting with people we know who have family in Gaza.
With the ever-worsening situation, it is difficult to say by now how exactly the money raised will be spent.
The decision will be informed, with the consultation of people we know who have ties in Gaza based on how much we manage to raise and the situation when we receive the funds.
We want to make sure that the money raised is sent in the most effective and reliable way possible.
